Used for the first time on a 400 mile ride ridin two up. The battery seems to last forever and the unit to unit array was fantastic. As I was fillin up we were able to talk as she was in the store getting snacks and drinks. I know this wasn’t a fantastic distance but it was nice to be able to do. Overall the unit worked fantastic and I really like that each unit can be paired to seperate devices. This gave me the skill to hear the gps instructions without my rider having to hear it. The only problem we had was with the VOX on. I ride a Victory Kingpin Tour with a front fairing and high windshield but for some wits one of the units kept turning on by wind or road noise. I didn’t try to many different options and I irrevocably just twisted the feature off and all was well. I will revisit this issue when I have more patience at the time I just wanted to be on the road. The units mounted straightforwardly in my Scorpion Exo100 half, her 3/4, and my cold weather full face. My half helmet has a skirt that the unit attatched to allowing me to take the whole thing off quickly. It really worked out well.

The unit is also awesome for the few buzz calls that I’ve had on it. Not a person yet has known I was on my bike even using my half helmet. The unit is plenty loud for me and it overpowers my pipes very well. The thin speakers have alot of power.

Excellent if you NEVER take out the main unit…, October 18, 2012

The problem with this design is that after copious removal and re-installation of the main units, the contact pads WILL wear out and/or hurt the pins on main unit and cause all kinds of issues.

Following are what we’ve encountered so far after @18 months of usage and 2 warranty replacements of the clap units so far and now again for the 3rd time…

    1. May lose one or both of the speaker sound/channels.
    2. May lose comm with another paired unit(can’t hear them or they you).
    3. May cause static due to poor contact; comm, buzz calls or music.
    4. Hurt(s) is/are irreversible and it must be replaced.

If you intend to NEVER take out the main units and opt to take your helmet EVERYWHERE with you and not risk theft, then this is fantastic.

If you choose to lock your helmet to the bike and take out the main units, as we do at EVERY stop, to avoid having to lug the helmets to restaurants and such, then you WILL encounter these problems sooner or later.

So far as I can tell, Sena is making no attempt to remedy this design flaw and see no future upgrade or recall is in plot(from what I can tell).

This is NOT an isolated issues that applies just to us, Google it and you’ll find others with similar problems/issues. Not excellent when warranty run out.

Although their customer benefit had been fantastic so far and their benefit and repairs/replacements has been expedited in timely manner, it’s an inconvenience we can do without.

    Just my .02

When you buy a Sena SMH-10 system, it will come with one or two main units. If you have 4 helmets for different kinds of riders and rides, then you will either spend a fortune on main units, or just buy a few of these SMH-A0301 mic/speaker headsets. They allow you to take out the main unit which you have taken the time to program to your buzz, and snap it onto any helmet that has the SMH-A0301. The unit uses a nice METAL clamp with two socket cap screws which will secure this to virtually any helmet. Kit includes everything you will need including allen wrench, speaker pads (if the speakers are not close enough to your ears), self adhesive speaker mounts, self adhesive boom attachment (if your helmet cannot use the screw down clamp for some wits), as well as an extra boom mic wind screen. Any slightly mechanically inclined person will figure out this installation in minutes.
