Terrible sound out of the box., February 27, 2014

This fastidious buy required me to return the item. The sound was not loud enough. There was also distortion and the rt side cut in and out. I compared the unit to a previously bought Sena Clamp kit, and the ancient one blew this one away. I’m assuming that it is just a terrible unit and not indicative of a product gone terrible.I am skeptical about the pin connectors, though. I disconnected and reconnected the connects several times, hoping to achieve surpass results. Sometimes I got luckier than other times. This seems like a weakness in the newer, more modular units. Maybe mine was just screwed up. I’m reordering another on- it surpass work! BTW, It’s beeing install in a Bell RS-1 (full face road helmet)

    Irrevocably!, August 15, 2013

Sena got it right with this helmet clamp kit. It is so nice to irrevocably be able to use either my own ear buds OR the wafer speakers that are already mounted in my helmet. Buzz calls and music are much clearer on my end thanks to using ear buds for longer trips. Being able to use noise canceling earbuds also blocks out detrimental wind noise as well as the Termignoni carbon exhaust without the db killers on my Ducati. For shorter trips, the wafer speakers work just fine. The only downside to using earbuds is the excess cord, but it tucks nicely under a riding jacket. If you have the SMH10, this kit will change your riding experience! The volume on this kit is more than enough and plenty loud which is a huge improvement over the original clamp. I have come nowhere close to the volume limit after using it for about 1 month now.

Best kit for using earbuds AND helmet speakers, September 3, 2014

This is the clamp kit to get if you want to use earbuds sometimes AND the Sena helmet speakers other times. It does both. You just have to unplug the speaker cable and plug in the supplied headphone extension. It also comes with the wired mic which is best for full-coverage helmets. If you buy this kit lonely, look for the SMH10 module which can also be bought lonely. This way you’ll save $$ vs. buying the ordinary, complete, SMH10 kit which comes with just helmet speakers and just a boom mike. Usually I wear ear protection and the speakers are loud enough to hear with plugs in. Using noise isolating earbuds though gives you quality sound. Earbuds work best when you replace the rubber buds with soft foam noise blocking ear plugs. Just drill a hole in the middle so you can slide them on the ear bud sound post. Using this kit and earbuds with foam plugs gives you a silent ride and quality music without having to raise the volume.
