Most comfortable pads for MTB, Development 8, 2014

This review is from: Troy Lee Designs KG 5400 Knee Guard Black, L – Men’s (Sports Apparel)
I was riding chunky granite (reckon Moab & Sedona) with a pair of 661 knee pads which offered decent protection. The problem with the 661’s is they always either slipped down and exposed your knee or bunched up and were not comfortable on longer rides.

On the advice of a friend I bought a pair of these TLD 5400’s, tried them on when I received and wore them nearly the house for a couple of hours! Yes, the wife and kids thought I was a dork! These things are extremely comfortable! I couldn’t wait to try them on the trail. The next day a group of riding buddies did a local trail which is only about a 10 mile loop but has over 2500 feet of climbing.

They did fantastic on the climbs, stayed place and no bunching. They also do a excellent job of keeping your knees warm, will see how they do in the warmer months.

All in all the TLD 5400’s performed fantastic, comfortable, no bunching and offered that sense of protection on gnarly downhills. One word of advice…really pay attention to the measurements on the TLD site, I originally thought I was a generous but had to return them for mediums.

i spent a looot of time trying-wearing many brands. after an inquiry in forums, I became convinced these are the ergo and protection wanted for me.the Fox and 61 where annoying behind my knees.
this are very fresh and safe (i already fall down very hard).
this are a huge deal for long rides!!

be warned… These offer small protection due to inadequate padding. eg the pro-tec double down are low profile but offer super protection due to adequate padding.
are basic… a plastic cup with fabric covering…. not enough.
iI have various brands for mx and skating ( longboard and inline) fox, 661,evs,pro-tec,hard and soft shell versions all these brands… So I can equate…. should avoid these…. are inadequate for any action sport. far surpass options at honest prices.
