    Take a pass on the 1st gen…..too many issues!!!!, August 31, 2013
    By
Jason Maheadsky “Bag O’Donuts” (Orange County, NY) –

I bought the bell rogue back when it was first available to the public, I believe it was june of this year?

I wanted to get some ride time with the helmet previous to posting a review, so here it is.

First off, I measured my noodle and ordered a generous…that was too small, so after some waiting I irrevocably got my XL.

Now the excellent: Fitment is nice, very comfortable. It feels heavy on my head but that’s because I’m comparing it to the brain bucket I wear nearly town. I’ve tried other DOT ¾ helmets on and this one is indeed one of the lightest. The interior of the helmet has some small ear pockets for a comm. Device. Wearing the helmet with my glasses or sunglasses is no problem and doesn’t affect comfort at all. I normally run goggles with this helmet and again, everything goes together nicely. The strap is a regular D-ring type attachment and is straightforwardly manipulated with a gloved hand. Oh, and I have to mention the looks on this helmet are second to known!

Now the terrible: I got the not glossy black, and now I regret it. The helmet never looks sterile, always some type of streak or grease spot from my hand or something. Wind noise and vibrations increase momentously at speeds above 70 mph. This MAY have to do with my windshield, but since I’ve gone through 2 windscreens and subdue have the issue, make your own end. My BIGGEST and most annoying gripe is the muzzle!! The muzzle itself contains an inner “liner” that is removable. You’re supposed to be able to take out this liner when it’s warmer out to get more airflow. Problem is, the muzzle itself sits TOO low on the face, and the liner must be used to cover your nose, without it you’d have this weird plastic cut covering half your backtalk and your chin! The muzzle is fully adjustable back and forth, and bringing the muzzle in closer to the face does close the gap to your nose, but then it’s TOO close to your face, and makes pressure points on the join of your nose. A fix to this problem would be pretty unadorned…..include different adjustment straps with the helmet that position the muzzle up/down by small increments. Do to this muzzle fitment problem; I struggle to keep this helmet in a comfortable position on my head during riding.

So bottom line; this helmet looks awesome, and I reckon the 2nd version will be awesome, IF bell takes the feedback they are getting and works it into the next helmet. But if I could do it again…I’d take a pass on the 1st generation of this groundbreaking helmet by bell.

    Incredible helmet!, December 26, 2013

had the awkward event of getting into a dirt bike accident. Nothing terrible, most severe injury was a broken scaphoid. In the moment of the accident a million things run through your head, I was conscious of all doable dangers like the impact, where my body was going, where my bike was going, is the truck behind me going to stop in time. But the most relevant to this review was ‘is my head going to slam into the asphalt or the cars nearly me’. unfortunately it did slam into the ground. I am a former Marine and am very accustomed to wearing helmets and the feeling of objects hitting it, it was never a comfortable feeling. But as my head hit the asphalt there was nearly a very comforting thought that ran through, it was nearly ‘springy’ and not dramatically so that I get whiplash, just enough to where it wasn’t a terrible experience. I know this might sound weird but considering I might have suffered a TBI, I feel like this helmet did its job very well. I didn’t hit the face guard though and wouldn’t expect it to do much protection against impact due to the fact that it is flimsy, but might have protected from road rash to the face. It does but do fantastic for that annoying rock bee dirt or any other random flying object that will hit you in the face. Plus it looks awesome, like your about to go kick down doors, the looks you get with this helmet is priceless. Fantastic helmet! Safe riding!

Light, Comfortable, and a head turner, May 18, 2013

The Bell Rogue has to be the best helmet I’ve ever worn. I wanted a half helmet that was not so bulky but was subdue DOT certified. the half shell on top with the three quarters bottom looks fantastic even with the muzzle off. It is very light and extremely comfortable. as for the muzzle, It snaps right into place magnetically with no vex but needs a excellent lift to get it out, which is nice cause I wouldnt want it to come out on its own. its straightforwardly adjustable and comfortable. i have mine adjusted so it does not touch my face at all.the air flow is remarkable, it nearly feels like im not wearing it at all. i couldn’t be more pleased with this helmet. so far id have to say the best thing about it is its looks. this helmets will turn heads and certainly get you noticed while riding. first day i took it out, people where stopping in there tracks, every rider was asking me where i got it. this is by far the best helmet ive owned for its looks and for its comfort. 5 out of 5 simple.
