Fantastic technology … but a couple of things, July 12, 2013

First of all I ride a 2012 Road King with stock exhaust and ordinary tombstone windshield. I mounted the unit on my HJC half-helmet. The speakers fit very high on the ear flap and the adhesive on the velcro lasted thru one attemp to go it. I finished up removing a small bit of the foam in the ear flap and having my wife sew the velcro in the assess location …. approximately. This location also overlapped the zipper on the flap so she could only secure half the velcro. This was not a proble and it may really add some flexibility to the speakers so there is less pressure on the ears. I had to do some experimenting to find the sweet-spot for the speakers so I could hear them and subdue be comfortable on my ears.
I will say that this technology is incredible. The unit married up to my Samsung Skyrocket no problem. I could hear the music fine up to about 70 mph, after that it depended a lot on if the wind was at my back and other ambient noise. After 80 mph forget it. What surprised me the most was the buzz capability. My wife called me as I was cruising down the freeway at 80mph. I could hear her fine and she said I was crystal clear …. I could barely hear myself talk but she could hear me fine with ver small wind or transfer background noise. She was very impressed.
I purchaded the 100 Plus unit because I did not reckon I would use the multi-hop features but I wanted the firmware upgradeability. Looking back I probably should have just bought the HBC200 since the price was not that much more.

The companies name, U-Clear tells part of the tale. In addition to clear/straightforwardly adjustable sound levels, installation to include reading the instructions took less than 15 minutes. Compared to Nolan helmets communicator….wait a minute there is no comparison, U-Clear is hands down the best buy. I selected four stars simply because this is only my second communicator and I’ve heard the Senna system is solid as well

I’ve had this about a year now and use it nearly daily. It has terrific battery life for habitual use. I’m not going on 18 hour rides mind you but I probibly use it about 3 hours a day and I routinely forget to place it on the charger at night, it holds a charge for quite a while. Your smart buzz will die long previous to this baby! The sound is quite excellent as well as far as music is concerned. I really use mine nearly exclusively to listen to audiobooks on my ride and it is loud enough to hear the authors speaking. Other bluetooth devices I tried just sounded like someone was whispering in my ear and was very distracting. With UCLEAR I have been able to take such incredible rides, to the moon and back, on other plants, into the human mind and body and have stayed safely on the road all in the span of my daily commute. The buzz function is lacking though. I don’t personally use it for that much but if that is something you need you may not be thrilled. I have a full face helmet and it can be quite hard to hear people on the other line, it’s simpler but also hard for them to hear me. The voice dialing is why it lost a star, It’s dreadful. I don’t know if this is mostly due to an issue with the buzz software or the device but the combination sucks either way. “Call Adrian Mobile” Often gets me results like “Calling George Home” or the much more dreaded “Calling Inlaws”. I’ve completely stopped using that function. There is an auto resolution function as well so if you don’t want to resolution a call (I usually set special ringtones for people worthy of interrupting my rides) you have to stay silent. Saying, “No Way!” does not in fact send the call to voicemail.
