I bought several different LED 1141 substitution lights to test out for our recently bought travel trailer. After reading about how much less energy the LED’s use than the bright 1141’s I was convinced the switch would be worth it, even with the relatively high cost. We do a lot of dry camping (no shore power) and I don’t want to have to reckon too much about always turning lights on and off to conserve battery power. Plus I reckon (hope!) that the LED bulbs will last a lot longer than the incandescents, two of which burned out in the first two weeks of owning the trailer.

Anyways, first I tried these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BN5ZT0/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00

Even with saying “warm white” these are really a very bright white, probably 1.5x as bright as the bright 1141’s they replaced and a very sterile white light. If super-bright and sterile light is what you want these will do it. For me, though, they robbed some of the “cozy” feeling I like when having dinner or before a live audience cards in the trailer at night, so I installed them in the main overhead light, which I usually only turn on when I’m looking for something.

    Next I tried these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TKI4VU/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00

These were a warmer white but they were probably only 50% of the brightness of the incandescents they replaced. They didn’t give off enough light that we could comfortably play cards by these lonely at the dinette, so I knew these weren’t going to be excellent for my needs. Because they’re such low-light I’ll probably just use them as replacements for the exterior lights on the trailer or something.

These new lights (the ones this review is for) are pretty much exact. They’re slightly brighter than the 1141’s and not quite as “warm” but they’re certainly close enough on both accounts that you’d only really notice the difference if you saw them side-by-side in a fixture or you’re mainly sensitive to lights in some way. So if you’re looking for a “excellent as it gets” substitution for your ancient 1141’s in an RV benefit from my testing and get these, because they’re more or less dead on.

I have researched LED lights for years. I replaced every light (60 can lights) in my home withe LED lights, my landscape lighting, and now my RV. For me, the most vital development into LED lights was the temperature (affect). When LED lights first came out, they were that funky blue-white affect. Extremely bright, but not simple on the eyes. Irrevocably, over the past year, the affect temperature was all but perfected. If you want lights that place out affect similar to the light bulbs we all grew up with, a warm but bright glow, then temperature close to 2800K is what you are looking for. Whatever thing above the 3500K array gets really white, and above 4000k borders blue-white.

These LED lights are really nice. The temperature (affect) is very close to my current RV light, and uses a FRACTION of the electricity. I would say that you likely should be using them behind a lens of some sort, because even with the affect being fantastic, they are really really bright to look at. Diffusing them behind a lens is just simpler on the eyes. My current experience with LED lights is that they are dimmable and seem to last well. Not sure if these dim, but I imagine they would?

Durability on this product is the only thing I cant speak to as of yet. They seem built really well, I had 0 failures so far on any of the LEDs and I am crossing my fingers that I will never need to replace them again. Packaging on these was fine. Well boxed and protected.

It will be nice when the cost drops further. Now that the research and development costs are likely over the huge hurdles, maybe the manufacturer and seller will go for the quantity sales, and capture the entire market…albeit not likely for some time.

In closing, these look fantastic, use very small precious juice from my RV batteries, are brighter than my current bulbs, and will hopefully last quite some time.

I do a lot of dry camping and these LEDs are fantastic for reducing power usage in my camper. I bought these BrightChoice LED BA15s lights to replace a couple of those flat, square, bright white, 36 LED lights I had bought several years ago for twenty bucks apiece. Those kept burning out LEDs until there were just a few left burning in them. These are so much surpass, and at less than half the price of the others. I also bought some of the 48-LED flat ones for a dual overhead light, and after two months those are already bringing up the rear have fun LEDs. I’m about ready to give up on the flat ones. No such vex with these. They are exact. According to my Trimetric meter these pull about a fifth of an amp. That is ONE TENTH what the incandescents used to pull, and I can’t tell the difference in the light output. Exceptional product.
