Shelter saves space in my garage, June 9, 2011

I bought this shelter to be an extension for my garage. It was simple to assemble and setup. Since I got it, it has rained nearly non-stop and for the most part it does a excellent job protecting the bike. I would suggest two improvements. I own a 1100 Honda Shadow Spirit cruiser. When in the parked/locked position the right hand mirror is too high to fit in the shelter so I am constantly readjusting the mirror. The second improvement is that rain does not drain off the roof. It pools up and eventually leaks onto the bike. There needs to be some kind of a crumple system to drain the free standing water from the roof. I like the ease of operation and the shelter it provides for my bike. I would recommend it over a canvas cover.

I don’t own a garage and have have gone through many dowco dirt bike covers. This is hands down the best cover I’ve ever used. This works perfectly if you buy sheet of pressure treated plywood to bolt the shelter on to.

I place this together in a small over 30 minutes. A snap. No tools necessary.

FWIW the dirt bike is a BMW F800GS.

The inside dimension is 43″ wide – not 44. My bike would have snuck in at 44, but as it is I have to take off one of the hard cases to get it in there. No deal killer. (Honestly, it would have been dreadfully tight even at 44″.)

My one complaint is that the huge Velcro attach points that hold the shelter to each rib are sewn on… And not sealed up. So there are dozens of pin holes across each rib through which rain will leak. When I was inside wrapping the ribs with the velcro attaches, I could see light through all the microscopic holes. I will try to seal all these up with some tent seam stuff and hope it lasts.

It’s too terrible though – every other seam on this cover is rock solid, and the material is very heavy and lasting. Dry was my over riding concern, and I’m worried this won’t quite do that without some help.
