Nice boots with lots to like about them…, August 7, 2014

    Verified Buy(What’s this?)

I ordered these boots without the benefit of being able to try them on previous to buying them. While the vendor offers a very nice and very reasonable return policy that would have let me exchange these if needed, I was a bit leery of ordering something like this that way. I just feel more comfortable buying something like this *after* I’ve been able to try them on. One of the huge concerns with wanting to try them on is just not being sure of how the sizing runs with these boots. I wear shoes in the 10 – 11 array depending on the manufacturer. With some shoes 10-1/2 works well, with others that would be too tight and the extra 1/2 size would be needed. Subdue others would find the 10-1/2 would be too huge. (And never mind the thought of getting widths right, though the right width would help in getting the sizes right as well as more room all nearly normally means not needing as much part, at least for my usage.)

Anyway, I ordered these and hoped they’d fit. Once ordered I was left waiting for them to ship (these typically don’t ship immediately, and don’t necessarily arrive in the typically expected 2nd day delivery that Prime customers might expect to receive). In my case I was away on vacation when they arrived, so I burned off a small of the potential return window while these sat at home previous to I returned. Beside that complication, an accident on my dirt bike had led to the need to order these boots, but also complicated my skill to being able to pull on boots, jackets and other protection equipment. (Basically I was one-handed for a while due to a broken arm bone.) Thankfully as I returned from vacation I was much farther along in my healing process and was able to pull on boots with much less pain. Irrevocably!! Irrevocably, I was able to try these on.

When I first tried them on I slid them over a thinner set of socks. At that point they seemed to slide on straightforwardly. They also seemed to have extra room nearly the toes and potentially the heel. Knowing that I typically ride with heavily padded (extra padded) socks, I wasn’t too bothered by that. I set the boots aside for a while longer as I waited out the healing process a bit more hoping to get to ride again soon.

A few weeks later I opted to give riding a try and went to pull these boots on. In that fastidious attempt I had place on the padded socks. Pulling these boots on over those socks left me thinking something must be really different with these boots as I had to make a bit of effort to get my foot down and into position within these boots. It wasn’t impossible, but it seemed that the last bend that was necessary wasn’t going to be simple, and really it wasn’t. Once my foot was down and in place within the boot’s foot area I was again left with the impression that I probably had more room in the toe/heel area than I might need.

In the end, I could probably get by with a 1/2 size smaller in these boots. I doubt that I could feel that comfortable in a full sized smaller, though I might be able to squeeze into them and eventually they’d probably stretch out nearly my feet. I would recommend going the other way though and sticking with some extra room.

What made me choose this fastidious set of boots from this manufacturer? I’ll start with the manufacturer part of that question first – I reckon the prime resolution there was the price and the generally positive reviews that I saw for their product lines. The reviews here at Amazon all seemed very positive and the cost seemed pretty reasonable. While I started out looking at another set of Xelement boots, as I looked through the various options I saw this pair and thought they looked nice and also knew that with the longer uppers in these that I’d be covering (and potentially protecting) more of my ankles and legs with these on.

I like the tread pattern and soles on these. They grip well and have plenty of tread on them so I expect them to last a while previous to wearing the soles down. I also like the zipper access on the insides of these boots. Being able to zip them open and make more space available for pulling them on or off makes putting them on or taking them off much simpler. The uppers feature, as shown in the images, the skull and wing pattern on them. My daughter insists that I must keep that covered (just because she wants to tweak me a bit about my tastes). The skull and wings look nice, though I would also note that the area with that artwork is more cloth (canvas type?) than leather. I’m not sure how water proof that area of these boots would be. (So far I’ve been lucky enough to not be caught out riding in the rain, or at least not much rain.)

The buckles down nearly the feet and in the upper ankle area make it simpler to tighten these up a bit (looking back up at my earlier description of trying these on and getting used to wearing them, I would state visibly that I had the buckles down nearly the…
