Keeps the wind out!, January 7, 2013

The Freeze-Out jacket is fantastic. I have been looking for something to fit under my summer dirt bike jacket for winter riding here in Southern California. They also carry these at every Cycle Gear store. I place in on and wow, no more cold wind! I used to have to wear a sweater and my North Face fleece jacket under my dirt bike jacket and I would subdue be cold when I got to work if it was in the 50-60s. Now I just wear it and NO wind chill!

The only con I can reckon of it that the sleeves are too small and it does fit kinda small. I normally am an XL, but had to get 2XL and the sleeves are subdue too small.

    Recommended.

    Semi-Like Without Bulk, November 8, 2013

The Freeze-Out Base Layer Gilet (Google translates that as ‘vest’ not ‘jacket’) has become my go-to insulation layer for commuting on my dirt bike. It’s warm without lots of bulk and fits nicely under my leather riding jacket. It’s kind of odd looking and certainly not a fashion statement unless ‘dork’ counts. I’m giving it four stars because the sleeves are a small small, as other reviewers have mentioned. Be advised that the zipper is what one would expect on a woman’s jacket in the US, i.e., reversed for men. Apparently that’s habitual in Europe. Wouldn’t know; never been.

Update 10/16/2014 – I’m dropping my rating to three stars due to the small sleeves and the fact that it didn’t seem to help much once temps drop to the 40s. My Duluth Trading Company Shoreman’s Fleece Hooded Jacket under my leather riding jacket keeps me toasty down into the 30s. Way mo’ bettah!

Arms are way too small., December 31, 2014
    By
Amazon Customer “DMack” (Los Angeles CA) –

After reading several reviews stating that the sleeves were small I chose to run over to a CycleGear retail location to check it out. The reviews don’t lie. The arms are seriously small on this item. It nearly doesn’t make sense. Standing straight up the sleeves are noticeably small, bent over in a riding position its just ridiculous. The employee suggested trying the FREEZE-OUT Base Layer Long Sleeve Top (pullover) instead. It was much surpass and has the thumb holes at the end of the sleeves that keep everything in place while you place on your outer jacket. Overall, if you have seriously small arms, this is a fantastic product. I personally prefer a zip up versus a pull over, and the zip off sleeves were hard to resist, but if you have even average part arms look elsewhere.
